We’ve been asking our Have A Lovely Time readers what their plans are for the weekend ahead and have found that men and women cannot agree what to do this weekend, causing squabbles over Jubilee bank holiday plans.

New research from Allianz Your Cover Insurance reveals women are choosing to celebrate the Jubilee with their families in contrast to men who are planning to make the most of the long weekend with their mates. In fact, only one in 10 women are choosing to hang out with friends over the weekend.

Andy James of Allianz Your Cover Insurance said: “Our research found that both sexes vote ‘good company’ as the most important ingredient for an ideal weekend. However, it seems that good company means a different crowd for men and women.”

“Looking overall at what Brits are doing over the Jubilee weekend, the most popular activity is seeing family which could mean that women are winning the war on choosing weekend activities.“

The debate between men and women is not just around Jubilee celebrations as 35% of women prefer to spend typical weekends with their family, compared to just a fifth (22%) of men.

Girls just wanna have fun

Despite having a similar ‘top five’ women are enjoying their weekends more than men. Girls have three hours more fun than boys each weekend which equates to over 150 extra hours of enjoyment each year. Women claim to enjoy their weekends 51% of the time compared to men who spend just 45% of their weekends enjoying themselves. The research also revealed 21% of men can feel stressed at the weekend which could be down to them not spending time with those they really want to see.

Getting away from it all

Nearly two thirds (63%) of women said they are planning or want to go away this year on day trips or weekends away. This would be eight trips a year, compared to the seven trips men are planning to take. As only 46% of men want to go on a day trip this year, women are resorting to going away with people other than their partner.

Women getting away for an extra day or weekend could be music to men’s ears as 57% of women like to spend their spare time with their partner compared to less than half (48%) of men who choose to hang out with their other half.

Andy James continued: “It looks like men and women are choosing to ‘agree to disagree’ when it comes to getting away, with women going away without the guys. Our Great British Weekends campaign is encouraging Brits to get in their cars and make the most of what this country has to offer, whether this is with family, a partner or friends.”
