We’ve just heard about a fantastic initiative from Haven, which is supporting under 5s around the UK and we wanted to tell you all about it.

You may want to make sure that your local school knows all about it.  I know I have!

January is a time to make a fresh start for the year ahead, and unsurprisingly, living a healthier lifestyle and exercising more have once again topped the most popular New Year’s resolutions. Many parents could do well to include the whole family in this aim with the results of a recent survey showing 84% of pre-school teachers are concerned children are becoming overweight.

Getting involved in the Haven Fun & Fitness campaign is an easy way to help under-fives to be more active. Through providing engaging, exciting sports kits free to pre-schools and nursery’s the campaign helps to encourage youngsters to get the fitness habit early.

Naomi Woodstock, Haven Fun & Fitness campaign manager commented; “We found that over 70% of pre-school leaders believe parents rely on early years settings to keep their children active. To support pre-schools and nurserieswith this responsibility we are giving away equipment to help make keeping fit fun, so children get more enjoyment and benefit from physical activities.”

Fun Fitness Kids Pic1 Get Kids Active This New Year2012 will be an especially relevant year to encourage youngsters to get involved with a sport. With the London Olympics only a few months’ away children and parents alike will be motivated by the achievements of the UK’s sportingheroes.

“While we hope the equipment might provide inspiration for the next generation of athletes, we also hope the sports kits will encourage healthyhabits in under-fives.We found 95% of previous campaign participants have reported the kit has helped encourage children to be more active,” enthuses Ms Woodstock.
