Christmas & December Events from English Heritage

English Heritage have some fabulously festive events coming up for the remainder of this year, and also have a lot of properties open over the Christmas/New Year period.

One of the key events, which is new to this year and a perfect way to learn about Christmas time from days gone by, is the Traditional Games & Toymaking Workshop at the stunning Kenilworth Castle:

Come to Kenilworth Castle during the Christmas holidays and treat the family to a traditional toy making workshop with historical games experts Heuristics. Not only will you learn how to make a traditional wooden toy which you can take home, there will be carols, fun games, stories and delicious refreshments – a unique and fun way to spend quality time together in a beautiful setting.

An Audience with Victorian Father Christmas

Characters of the Castle Tour

Housesteads Roman Fort opening times

  • Until Spring 2012: 0am-0pm
  • Housesteads Roman Fort will be closed this winter from 16 October 2011 for re-development by English Heritage, National Trust and Northumberland National Park Authority. The English Heritage facilities including the visitor centre, toilets, museum, shop and disabled parking will be closed, but visitors are still welcome to view the fort itself free of charge during this time.
  • Visitors and schools can use the toilets and shop at the National Trust Visitor Centre (Open daily 10am to 4pm – closed 25 and 26 Dec and 1 Jan) and the car park remains open. The new and improved Housesteads Museum will re-open to the public and schools in Spring 2012.
