Media requests: Holiday and gap year disasters

Media requests: Holiday and gap year disasters I’M working with a team planning some national media articles about holiday setbacks and have to find the following interviewees.

All interviewees need to be British citizens, and willing to be named and pictured. There’s a thank of up to £100 in vouchers from a favourite store should your story be featured. Please note the experiences outlined below should be relatively recent to be eligible – not distant memories you’ve tried to forget/live down for years! (Perhaps that’s just me as I remember Corfu 1986…)

1. First time holiday disaster

I need to find  someone who has gone on their first holiday abroad without their parents, ideally after sixth form and got into difficulty. Perhaps you were arrested for being drunk or breaking the law in another way and were perhaps unaware what you were doing was illegal. Or perhaps you came home in significant debt or large bills to pay because you weren’t insured. Maybe you were hospitalised. The interview would touch on how much you planned your trip, did you think you were invincible while abroad?

2. Gap year disaster.

Have you had a problem while on your gap year? Perhaps you had a nasty accident riding a moped — or perhaps something more intrepid – in a long haul destination which brought with it a large medical bill for repatriation to the UK because you had no travel insurance. Or maybe you got ill because you didn’t get the right injections or protect yourself from a nasty disease like malaria. Were you naïve about your destination? Did this land you in difficulties? Could you have done more research which would have helped you more with the local laws and culture?

If either of these scenarios applies to you, then please email me on Linda[at]passionatemedia.co.uk with a synopsis of what happened and your full name and contact details. My deadline is June 23.
