Erica and family visited M & Ds with a complimentary ticket provided for Have a Lovely Time and has made a donation to the children’s cancer charity NACCPO. This is the first of a Great British Days Out campaign posts and we hope to reach a target of £1,000 for NACCPO. OUR day out to M & Ds was a real family affair with four generations present and ages ranging from four to 70, writes Erica.
In all honesty I went with low expectations as I’d visited M & D’s about eight years ago and wasn’t blown away. I’m happy to say that M & D’s has come a long way since then and we had a lovely time.
M & Ds is to the west near Glasgow. The park itself occupies a great spot right next to Strathclyde Country Park which has a huge boating lake, an adventure playground that makes you wish you were eight again and some nice picnic spots.
The M & Ds park itself is not overly large but has enough attractions to fill a day. Billed as “Scotland’s Theme Park,” I’d say it probably falls somewhere in between a fairground and a theme park, although there have been additions that have made it more of a theme park.
An unlimited ticket which gives you access to all the rides is £15.95 for adults and £11.95 for children. A family package including rides, adventure golf and a theatre show is £59.99 for a family four which I think represents good value. There are several other packages too, my advice is decide what you want to do at the start and make sure you choose the ticket/package to match to get the best value.
Attractions wise there were three or four rollercoasters, several children’s rides, a large indoor soft play area, an adventure golf course and an exotic bird garden. We rode the dodgems, a water flume ride, lots of children’s rides and a God awful Aladdin’s carpet ride that reminded me of an awful Tower of Terror experience (witnessed by Linda!).
I was also very impressed with the refreshments available, there were lots of options including a family restaurant, Wimpey, baked potatoes, pancakes, hotdogs and nachos. If you’re looking for healthier alternatives I’d recommend taking a picnic as we did, there are plenty of places to dine alfresco on a nice day, and there’s always the option to cross the road to the country park.
Overall it was a very good day out and compares favourably to other leading Scottish attractions. One particular thing that stood out was the fact that there was something for everyone no matter your age or taste in rides.
